Dr. Achuthan Nair's paternal grandfather Dr. R. Kesavan Nair was the Professor of Surgery at Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram and the first Superintendent of the Medical College Hospital. He was one of the founding fathers of the first Medical College in Kerala. The 'gentleman surgeon' of Travancore, he was `Valia Kesavan Nair' to the public, a prefix that was conferred on him as one of the most venerated doctors of all times. Dr. C. A. Achuthan Pillai, MD, MRCP, the maternal grandfather was Professor of Medicine, Medical College Trivandrum.
Achu, as he was popularly known among his friends, had begun his formal education at Christ Nagar High School, Vellayambalam, till the 10th Standard and did the Pre-degree course at Mar Ivanios College. He pursued his professional studies at Government Dental College, Trivandrum for his BDS and Raja's Dental College for Post graduation (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery). He has also secured Fellowships in Implantology, Nobel Biocare and GMI Implants.
Dr. Achuthan Nair is currently working as a Maxillofacial Surgeon, at KIMS Health, Trivandrum. His services were available at NIMS Medicity, Neyyattinkara, and the Department of Plastic Surgery, Ananthapuri Hospitals. He is also patronizing A.G.M Dental Clinic, Thiruvananthapuram, since 2001.
Dr. Achuthan Nair has won laurels in the field of teaching as well. He was lecturer in Sree Mookambika Institute of Dental Sciences, Kulasekharam from 2010 June to 2014 June; in Noorul Islam College of Dental Sciences, Neyyattinkara from 2014 Oct to 2022 June and Professor of Sri Sankara Dental College, Varkala from 2022 July till date.
Dr. Achuthan Nair is married to Dr. Rekha V. R, MDS, Associate Professor, Dept. of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Sri Sankara Dental College, Varkala and they are blessed with a son, Deepak Krishnan, doing his B. Tech Electronics and Communication at SCT College of Engineering, Pappanamcode, Trivandrum.
Dr. Achuthan Nair was Initiated into the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry on the 7th of September 2013, Passed on the 15th of February 2014 and Raised on the 18th of October 2014. He has served the Lodge in all Offices starting from that of the Steward. He was regular in attendance and deeply involved in rituals and took keen interest in all affairs and activities of the Lodge.
